Taiwan reported three new local cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. Health authorities also reported 87 more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan.
There were no reported deaths.
Wednesday’s three domestic cases are connected to existing clusters in Taoyuan. They were infected with the same Omicron variant. Two of the cases were discovered in quarantine. They are related to a cluster which originated at four schools in Taoyuan. So far, health authorities have identified 36 COVID-19 cases connected to that cluster.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung said the other domestic case is probably linked to a cluster infection at a bank in Taoyuan. Close contacts for that case have all tested negative for COVID-19.
Of the 87 imported cases confirmed on Wednesday, 47 tested positive upon arrival in Taiwan.
To date, Taiwan has confirmed 21,492 COVID-19 cases including 15,493 domestic cases and 853 deaths.
