National Development Council head Kung Ming-hsin says that his organization will meet with business leaders later this week to discuss Taiwan’s roadmap to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Taiwan has set a goal to become net-zero by 2050.
On Wednesday, Kung gave a report to the legislature. DPP Legislator Chiu Yi-ying said that, while Taiwan has committed to go net-zero by 2050, it’s falling short of net-zero guidelines set forth by the International Energy Agency.
In response, Kung says that the NDC is working on a roadmap to determine what Taiwan needs to do to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. He says the roadmap will determine what technologies Taiwan will have to develop to reach its goal.
Kung says that a vital factor in reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 is changing how businesses in Taiwan operate. He says that the NDC will meet with businesses that will be affected by the government’s net-zero initiative later this week and report on its findings to the Cabinet and President.
