VIDEO: Taiwan mountain town unveils 430 kilogram bento box
A bento box that weighs 430 kgs.!

In Taiwan, people will jump at any excuse to organize a festival. Now, a small town near Taiwan’s Alishan Scenic Area is holding one to celebrate the iconic bento boxes visitors enjoy on their train ride into the mountains.

It’s a lunch box like no other. At the opening of the Fenchi Lake bento festival in Chiayi County, organizers unveil Taiwan’s biggest steel bento box. Inside  are grilled tomahawk pork chops, chicken drumsticks, and boiled eggs braised in soy sauce. All that weighs a total of 430 kgs, enough to feed 350 people.

Besides the giant lunchbox, other restaurants are here promoting their somewhat smaller bento boxes. They included the famous Alishan train bento box and the nine-square box with a different delicacy in each of the nine sections.

March is cherry blossom season in Alishan, so visitors can enjoy the flowers and savor a delicious lunch box at the same time. You better hurry… the event ends April 15.
