VIDEO - Government: Animal product prices will remain stable

There are concerns in Taiwan that chicken meat and dairy products will soon be in short supply. That’s after an egg shortage hit Taiwan at the end of January. However, Taiwan’s agriculture minister says that the price of those goods will not fluctuate in the short term.

Legislator Yang Chiung-ying grills Agriculture Minister Chen Chi-chung during a legislative hearing. She’s concerned about reports that Taiwan will soon face a chicken meat shortage, causing prices to spike. Chen, however, is adamant that Taiwan’s chicken prices will remain stable.

Chicken isn’t the only commodity of concern here. Shortages triggered by the war in Ukraine may also bring about a rise in dairy prices. Chen says that his department is making sure that livestock feed supplies are sufficient. He says if feed prices remain stable, then meat and dairy prices should remain stable too.

Chen promises that prices for the goods in question won’t rise at least until the end of April.
