British people on working holiday visas in Taiwan are now allowed to change their visa type without leaving the country. The same also applies to Taiwanese people on working holiday visas in the UK.
Previously, people on working holidays in the UK and Taiwan had to leave the country when their visa expired. That meant British people in Taiwan were effectively not allowed to remain in Taiwan, since they would not be able to re-enter the country due to Taiwan’s strict COVID-19 border controls.
Under the new rules agreed by Taiwan’s UK office and UK authorities, British people in Taiwan are allowed to change to a working visa or student visa when their working holiday visa expires. The same applies to Taiwanese people in the UK.
The new rules have been backdated to March 10, so they are already in effect.
