President Tsai Ing-wen says Taiwan’s orchid cultivation industry is the pride of the country.
During a speech at the opening ceremony of the Taiwan International Orchid Show on Friday, Tsai said the flowers function as an important link between Taiwan and the rest of the world.
According to the president, Taiwan accounts for a third of the world’s total orchid cultivation. She says the Taiwan Orchid Plantation in Tainan is the world’s largest growing site, and Taiwan’s orchids were worth NT$6.3 billion (US$220 million) on global markets last year.
Tsai says she is committed to ensuring Taiwan can keep its position as a world leader in orchid cultivation.
