MasterCard is launching a credit card that can track users’ carbon footprint in Taiwan. The card is the first of its kind in Asia. MasterCard is partnering with Taiwan’s O-Bank in this new venture.
MasterCard Taiwan says that the program is meant to encourage people in Taiwan to actively reduce their carbon footprint.
Cardholders can track their carbon footprint using a designated app. The app will derive each cardholder’s carbon footprint by tracking their spending habits. O-Bank will reward people who lower their carbon footprint, while some businesses will offer discounts for card users.
MasterCard says that many businesses were eager to be part of the eco-friendly program.
