COVID-19 (03/31): Taiwan reports 87 local, 152 imported cases

Taiwan reported 87 new local cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. Health authorities also reported 152 more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan. That’s the highest number of local cases and imported cases this year.

The infection clusters that grew the most on Thursday were in Keelung, Taoyuan and New Taipei City. Twenty-two more people tested positive in Keelung, where authorities are carrying out mass testing of the city population.

Ten people also tested positive for COVID-19 in a cluster connected to the Datan Power Plant in Taoyuan, bringing the total to 88.

Thirteen people tested positive in a cluster at a technology manufacturing plant in Shulin in New Taipei City.

Other people tested positive in clusters in Zhonghe in New Taipei City, Taitung’s Beinan Township and Taichung City, among other places.

Health authorities don’t know the infection source for 12 of Thursday’s new local cases.

Taiwan also recorded 152 imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. Ninety-six of them tested positive on arrival in Taiwan, while the remaining 56 tested positive in quarantine. They include travelers from Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Thailand, among others.

There were no deaths from COVID-19 reported on Thursday.
