Two hundred members of the US House of Representatives say they support Taiwan joining the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). The representatives sent a letter calling for Taiwan's inclusion in the IPEF to the Biden administration on Wednesday.
US President Biden announced plans to launch the IPEF last October, as a way to promote trade and economic relations between the US and countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou says that Taiwan welcomes the US representatives' support and it hopes to join the IPEF in the future. She says that the foreign ministry will continue to strengthen and diversify economic cooperation with the US.
On Monday, the US also passed the America Competes Act, which aims to promote the US's economic competitiveness and has many clauses supporting closer ties with Taiwan. Ou says that Taiwan is optimistic about the US strengthening its competitive edge against China.
