Taiwan reported 133 new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
Most of the people with COVID are from northern Taiwan. That includes 46 people from New Taipei City, 31 from Keelung, 23 from Taipei and 15 from Taoyuan.
Authorities also diagnosed six people with COVID in Yilan County, along with four from Hsinchu County, three from Hualien County, two from Hsinchu City, and one each from Taichung, Pingtung and Kaohsiung.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says case numbers have been relatively stable over the past few days. But he says that is partly because Taiwan is enjoying a two-day public holiday, so health authorities are doing less testing.
Chen also says most people who have caught COVID this year have had mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. Only four people out of 1,713 have experienced serious illness.
Taiwan also recorded 142 imported cases of COVID-19 on Monday. Sixty-eight of them tested positive on arrival in Taiwan, while the remaining 74 tested positive in quarantine. They include travelers coming from Indonesia, the United States, and China, among others.
There were no deaths reported on Monday.
