Two Taiwanese designers have taken home the Grammy award for best album design. Designers Li Jheng Han and Yu Wei are the first Taiwanese people to win a Grammy in any category.
Li and Yu were given the Grammy for Best Recording Package for their work on the album “Pakelang” by 2nd Generation Falangao Singing Group & The Chairman Crossover Big Band. The design features a relief map of Taiwan’s eastern coastline, inspired by Valangaw, a village in Taitung County home to some of Taiwan’s Indigenous Amis people.
Speaking through an interpreter at the ceremony on Sunday night, Li and Yu said Taiwan is a “beautiful and peace-loving country”. They encouraged the audience to visit Taiwan, saying they would be “super welcome”.
Culture Minister Lee Yung-te has called the Grammy-winning designers to express his pride and congratulations.
