Taiwan’s Legislature formed an association on Friday for promoting women’s participation in international sports events.
Legislator Lin Ching-yi says she hopes women’s sports can become the most important diplomatic force for exchanges and interactions with athletes of other countries. The Taiwanese lawmaker founded a new association with that aim on Friday.
Vice Foreign Minister Alexander Yui was also at the inauguration. He says that sports is an important part of a country’s soft power and a way of promoting national identity. Yui says in recent years, more and more female athletes from Taiwan have been taking part in international competitions. He says that is helping Taiwan internationally. Yui also says it is an honor for the foreign ministry to cooperate with the association to help Taiwan’s women power and sports diplomacy shine on the world stage.
Also at the inauguration were several ambassadors of Taiwan’s allies including Guatemala, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Haiti and St. Lucia.
