Wu: China’s aggressive diplomacy turning European democracies to Taiwan
Foreign Minister Joseph Wu sits down with TaiwanPlus Reporter Divya Gopalan

China’s aggressive “wolf-warrior diplomacy” is driving European democracies to interact more with Taiwan. That’s according to Foreign Minister Joseph Wu who gave an interview to media outlet TaiwanPlus. TaiwanPlus released its interview with Wu just as a delegation made up of members from Sweden and the EU’s parliament visits Taiwan.

Wu says that ties between Taiwan and European countries are seeing unprecedented development. He says the European parliament adopted a Taiwan-EU Political Relations and Cooperation report last year, which encourages more interactions with Taiwan. Wu says that in addition to the EU report, France, Ireland, Denmark, and Italy also adopted pro-Taiwan resolutions in their respective parliaments. The foreign minister says Taiwan has received parliamentary delegations from several European countries over the last six months.

Wu says warming ties between Taiwan and European countries comes as China attempts to expand its global influence using its “wolf-warrior diplomacy.” He says China responds aggressively to countries that do not fall in line with Beijing’s policies. That is driving European democracies to interact more with Taiwan. Wu says Taiwan, much like many European countries, values freedom, democracy, and human rights.
