Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says Taiwan may see thousands of new domestic COVID-19 cases a day by the end of the month. That came during a report Chen gave to the legislature.
On Wednesday, Taiwan reported a record-high 744 domestic COVID-19 infections. The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the country has climbed steadily since the end of March.
Chen says the current outbreak is in its early stages. He says he hopes daily domestic cases will begin tapering off in one to two months’ time.
In response to the outbreak, the government has formed a task force to help with the acquisition and production of COVID-19 rapid testing kits. Chen says that Taiwan will lower the price of the testing kits to make them more accessible.
