Taiwan reported 1,209 new local cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
More than a quarter of the people with new cases of the virus are from New Taipei City, with 328 infected there. Two hundred and ninety people have also caught COVID in Taoyuan, while health workers in Hualien County have diagnosed 146 cases.

Of the 1,209 people with newly confirmed cases of COVID on Friday, 10 have moderate symptoms. The youngest is a woman in her 40s with a history of high blood pressure and diabetes. She has not been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the eldest people experiencing moderate symptoms are two women in their 80s. Both women have a history of high blood pressure, and one has heart disease. The woman with heart disease has had two doses of a COVID vaccine, while the other woman is unvaccinated.
Taiwan also recorded 75 imported cases of COVID-19 on Friday. There were no deaths reported.
