COVID-19 (04/16): Taiwan reports 1,199 local, 152 imported cases, 0 deaths

Taiwan reported 1,199 new local cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.

More than a third of the people with new cases of the virus are from New Taipei City, with 434 infected there. Two hundred and six people have also caught COVID in Taipei, while health workers in Taoyuan have diagnosed 159 cases.

The number of new cases in other cities and counties is as follows:

Keelung: 92

Kaohsiung: 60

Hualien County: 55

Taichung: 40

Yilan County: 39

Tainan: 29

Changhua County: 16

Hsinchu County: 15

Pingtung: 12

Miaoli County: 12

Hsinchu City: 10

Taitung County: 7

Yunlin: 5

Nantou County: 5

Chiayi City: 2

Chiayi County: 1

Of the 1,119 newly confirmed cases of COVID on Saturday, nine have moderate symptoms and one has serious symptoms. The youngest and most severe case is a boy under the age of five, who has not been vaccinated against COVID-19 and does not have a history of other medical issues. This is the first case of a child exhibiting serious symptoms of COVID-19 in Taiwan. 

Of the nine people experiencing moderate symptoms, three have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 and six have received either two or three doses.


Taiwan also recorded 152 imported cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. There were no deaths reported.
