People with mild cases of COVID will be able to leave quarantine as early as four days after testing positive. That’s under new regulations from Taiwan’s health authorities on Monday.

Under the new rules, if a person tests negative twice within the first four days after testing positive, that person can leave quarantine and do seven days’ self-health management. During self-health management, people have to avoid interacting with large groups.

Likewise, people will be able to leave quarantine five to nine days after testing positive if they test negative just once.

Rapid tests and PCR tests are both valid for the purposes of the new rules, and a Ct-value of 30 or higher on a PCR test counts as a negative test result.

But all tests have to be carried out by a medical professional. That means people doing quarantine at home cannot leave early.

However, people no longer have to test negative to finish the 10-day quarantine period. Instead, they can simply leave quarantine after 10 days is up.
