The Ukraine Parliament thanked Taiwan for its support on the social media app Telegram on Tuesday. It said, “From the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine has been supported by distant Taiwan.” It also said it is grateful for the support from countries around the world.
The post also had a photo from the “die-in” protest held at Taipei’s Liberty Square on Sunday. In the protest, protesters fell to the ground to sounds similar to Russian air raids and artillery. The protest saw about 100 people on Sunday and was organized by Taiwan Stands With Ukraine.
The foreign ministry said that people in Taiwan have donated 650 tons of supplies and over US$32 million for Ukrainian refugees.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou said that Taiwan would continue to work with like-minded countries to support Ukrainian refugees. She said people in Taiwan hope to see peace in Ukraine soon.
