COVID-19 (04/19): Taiwan reports 1,626 local cases, 2 deaths

Taiwan reported 1,626 new local cases and 2 deaths of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The number of new domestic cases is another single-day high and the fifth consecutive day in which local cases number above 1,000.

New Taipei has the highest number of domestic cases at 583, followed by Taipei with 287.

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) also reported two new deaths with one involving a man in his 90s with previous health conditions. The other one is a two year old boy, the first child under the age of 18 to die from COVID in Taiwan since the pandemic broke out. The boy developed brain stem encephalitis from the COVID-19 infection after testing positive last Friday. The two new deaths brought the number of fatalities from COVID in Taiwan to 856.

Taiwan also recorded 101  imported cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, with 89 of them testing positive upon arrival in Taiwan.
