Taiwan has welcomed a statement by senior diplomats from the United States and European Union calling for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and the EU’s top diplomat, Stefano Sannino, say they support a “peaceful resolution” of cross-Strait issues.

The two officials met for two days of talks last week. Their joint statement lays out common policy goals in a number of regions, including Russia, China and the Indo-Pacific.

On Monday, Taiwan’s foreign ministry welcomed the statement. It says Taiwan is a responsible member of the international community in the Indo-Pacific. The ministry says it will continue to work with the EU, US and other countries to strengthen the resilience of democracy around the world.
