The Swedish Parliament will discuss the possibility of opening a House of Sweden in Taiwan. Swedish parliamentarians recently visited Taiwan and said that they want to have an office that is not just “a trade office” in order to expand bilateral ties.

The House of Sweden is the name of the iconic building that houses the Embassy of Sweden and Embassy of Ireland in Washington D.C.. It is also home to many Swedish businesses.

Third Deputy Speaker of the Riksdag Kerstin Lundgren is one of the initiators of the House of Sweden proposal. She said that it already has cross-party support in the parliament.

Taiwan has been strengthening ties with many European countries. Foreign affairs official Remus Chen said that Lithuania is also in the process of setting up a representative office in Taiwan.  Chen said the details will be announced once the location and personnel are confirmed.
