Taiwan reported 8,822 new domestic cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, another single-day high.
Most of the people confirmed with COVID on Wednesday are from northern Taiwan. New Taipei City recorded the most cases at 3,241. All of Taiwan’s 22 counties and cities confirmed at least one case.
On Wednesday authorities announced that two men, aged 70 and 50, passed away as a result of contracting COVID-19. The older of the men was infected with the virus domestically and was suffering from cancer. The other patient tested positive after returning from the United States and had a history of chronic illness. Both men had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Taiwan also recorded 101 imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. Eighty-four of them tested positive on arrival in Taiwan, while the remaining 17 tested positive in quarantine.
