Taiwan has donated US$500,000 to the press freedom group Reporters Without Borders to help its work in Ukraine. The foreign ministry says the donation is a “concrete step” to support the group’s new Press Freedom Centre in Lviv.

The center offers bulletproof vests and first aid training to reporters to help them cover the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Taiwan’s foreign ministry says it is working with its partners to stop the spread of false information in Ukraine while protecting reporters in the field.

The war in Ukraine has been characterized by the brutal bombardment of built-up areas alongside concerted campaigns of disinformation. And reporters have been caught up in the violence. According to statistics from Reporters Without Borders, seven journalists have died and 11 have been wounded.

Taiwan says it is providing humanitarian support and working to promote peace and stability.
