COVID-19 (05/01): Taiwan reports 16,936 local, 149 imported cases
COVID case numbers for May 1, 2022

Taiwan reported 16,936 new local cases and 149 imported cases of COVID-19 on Sunday. Three more people have died.

There were six severe cases including three that died. One of the severe cases is an elderly man over 90 who was not vaccinated. He caught it from a household member and was not willing to get tested earlier. He later discovered he had COVID. Another was a man over 60 with prior health conditions. Another severe case was a man in his 60s who had one vaccine dose. The other three patients are men over 50. Two had been vaccinated while one had three doses.

From April 23- April 29, 9.6% of those tested for COVID have tested positive. Health authorities are also asking people not to go to hospitals to get tested.

Taiwan has seen 85% vaccinated with one dose, 84% with two doses, and 60% have received a booster shot.

Health Minister Chen Shih-chung called on the public to get their vaccine shots as soon as possible
