Taiwan reported 17,801 new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday. Three more people have died as a result of contracting the disease.
More than a third of the people with new cases of COVID are from New Taipei, with 6,584 people there testing positive. Another 3,718 people have the disease in Taipei, along with 2,577 more in Taoyuan.

Three more people have died from COVID-19. All of them were over the age of 70 with pre-existing health conditions. One had received two vaccine doses, another had one dose, and the third was unvaccinated.
Out of the 17,801 people confirmed with COVID on Monday, 14 have moderate symptoms and seven have severe symptoms. The youngest with severe symptoms is a girl under the age of 5 with a history of nervous system disease. Taiwan is not vaccinating children that age, so she has had no doses of a COVID vaccine.
Meanwhile, the eldest person with severe symptoms is a man in his 90s with a history of heart disease and stroke. He has not been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Taiwan also recorded 57 imported cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
