The foreign affairs ministry has released a video to share Taiwan’s public health contributions and advocate for its inclusion at the World Health Assembly. The ministry uploaded the new video called “Sweetness of Friendship” on Monday.
The video shows how Taiwanese medical workers have helped people in Eswatini and Malawi. The ministry says this is part of the international campaign that shows “Taiwan can help”, especially regarding public health.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou says that the COVID-19 pandemic has illustrated how important it is for Taiwan to attend the WHA as an observer. She says that Taiwan’s government will continue to build up international support in order to attend the WHA, which will be held from May 22 to 28.
Last week, the US House of Representatives voted unanimously in favor of a bill that supports Taiwan’s observer status at the WHA. Ou says she is reaching out to other like-minded countries to advocate for Taiwan’s inclusion at the assembly.
