Foreign Minister Joseph Wu says Taiwan is trying to become a member of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework. That came during a report Wu gave to the legislature on Wednesday morning.
The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) is an initiative proposed by US President Joe Biden to “increase engagement” in the Indo-Pacific Region.
Last week, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken did not say whether or not Taiwan will be included in the IPEF. But Blinken says the IPEF will “[engage] virtually every country in the region.”
Joseph Wu says that he does not know how likely it is that Taiwan will be included in the framework. But he says that Taiwan occupies a strategic place in the global supply chain, and he’s confident that IPEF decision-makers understand that as well.
Wu says that as the global economy recovers from the pandemic, Taiwan is integrating itself as an important part of the international community.
