Taipei’s internationally-renowned book fair will take place in person this year after two years of online events. Culture Minister Lee Yung-te confirmed on Friday that the Taipei International Book Exhibition will go ahead as planned.
The annual exhibition is one of the biggest book fairs in the world by number of featured publishers.
With Taiwan facing a growing wave of COVID-19 infections, publishing representatives had raised their doubts about whether the event would go ahead. For the last two years, organizers have held the exhibition online to avoid spreading the virus.
But this year, exhibitors and visitors will gather in person for the exhibition from June 2 to 7 in Hall 1 of the Taipei World Trade Center.
Culture Minister Lee Yung-te says the agreement to let the exhibition go ahead came after “very detailed discussions.” He says it is up to individual publishers to decide if they want to attend, and he will respect that decision.
