Taiwan has announced new guidelines helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to cut their emissions. That comes as the country works to reach net-zero carbon by 2050.
According to Taiwan’s emissions reduction law, enterprises have to audit their carbon emissions every year to make sure they meet reduction targets. These requirements were originally aimed at large emitters, but the new guidelines look to direct enterprises throughout the supply chain.
The guidelines explain why SMEs need to carry out emissions audits and how they should do them.
Environmental regulator Tsai Ling-yi says that most SMEs can self-audit as long as they follow regulations. She added that only some industries specifically identified by officials will have to verify their audit results.
Environmental regulators say that starting this June, they will organize meetings throughout the country to help SMEs to implement the guidelines.
