The wave of COVID cases sweeping Taiwan will reach its peak at the end of May. That was the word from the health ministry on Thursday.
The ministry says that in order to handle the surge in cases, Taiwan has set up eight large testing stations that are spread throughout the northern counties with the highest case numbers.
Rising case numbers also means an increase in people who are close contacts. This week, the ministry put new protocols in place. They say that people who live with confirmed COVID cases can choose not to quarantine if they have already received three doses of a COVID vaccine.
In order to conserve medical resources, the ministry has also released new guidelines for which COVID cases need medical attention. Starting from Tuesday, people with moderate to severe symptoms, infants under three months old with a fever, and some other special cases have been able to receive hospital care.
The health ministry says that these policies are in place to conserve health care resources and minimize health risks, while slowly loosening pandemic restrictions for the general public.
