Taiwan’s legislature passed new regulations on Friday to prevent key technologies from flowing out of the country.
The new amendments to laws governing national security and relations with China are aimed at technologies tied to national security, international competitiveness and economic development. This may include technologies in advanced weaponry and semiconductors.
People or institutions found damaging these key technologies by helping foreign adversaries illicitly obtain them now face five to 12 years in prison.
The regulations also ban the use of products or services from China or other hostile forces in military purchases. It also stipulates that individuals or institutions working with key technologies must undergo official review before entering China.
The amendments must still be signed by President Tsai Ing-wen to become law.
