Taiwan reported 66,247 new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday. Forty more people have died.
Almost a quarter of the people with new cases of COVID are from New Taipei, with 15,708 people there testing positive. Another 8,636 have the disease in Taoyuan, along with 7,286 in Kaohsiung.
Another 40 people have died from COVID-19. Most of them were over the age of 70 with long-term health problems, and only one-third had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Out of the 66,247 people confirmed with COVID on Monday, 173 have moderate symptoms.
Taiwan also recorded 36 imported cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
