Taiwan reported 89,352 new local and 37 imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday while 76 more people have died as a result of contracting the disease.
The deceased were aged 30 and over and 73 had chronic illnesses while 31 were unvaccinated.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung said he expects the number of cases to steadily increase and reach a peak in early June. He does not expect another major surge in cases.
