Taiwan plans to spend NT$6 billion to stimulate the tourism and transportation industries in June. That was the word from Transportation Minister Wang Kwo-tsai on Thursday.
Wang says that the government has a special fund set aside for handling the negative impact of COVID-19. He says that what’s left of the budget will be spent on the medical care system, quarantine hotels and taxis, as well as the tourism and transportation industries.
Wang says that the transportation ministry has received NT$6 billion, and will spend around 90% of that on reviving the tourism industry. The remaining funds will go towards the public road system.
Wang says that the tourism stimulus will be separated into three parts: travel, lodgings and entertainment. He adds that subsidies for hotels and entertainment venues will vary depending on the size of the business.
Wang initially said that the stimulus plan would be ready by the end of June. However, after some lawmakers demanded a faster roll-out for struggling businesses, he said that it could be completed in mid-June.
