COVID-19 (05/26): Taiwan reports 81,852 local cases, 104 deaths
Taiwan's COVID-19 case numbers on May 26, 2022.

Taiwan reported 81,852 new local cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. One hundred and four more people have died. That's the most in a single day since the pandemic began.

Almost a quarter of the people with new cases of COVID are from New Taipei, with 17,632 people there testing positive. Another 9,944 have the disease in Taichung, along with 9,484 in Taoyuan.

Another 104 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80, and the vast majority had life-threatening or long-term illnesses. Almost half of them were unvaccinated. 

Out of the 81,852 people confirmed with COVID on Thursday, 333 have moderate or severe symptoms.

Taiwan also recorded 55 imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
