Taiwan will give five free COVID-19 rapid tests per person to every low-income household in the country. That’s under a new plan announced by Premier Su Tseng-chang on Thursday.

The scheme will also distribute three tests to each of Taiwan’s care home residents.

According to government estimates, 8 million people are set to benefit.

Early on Taiwan’s COVID outbreak, the country suffered from a shortage of rapid tests. But Premier Su says it’s now easier for people to find them in stores.

Su says the government will keep making sure local authorities and schools have a steady supply.
