Taiwan’s top trade official John Deng will meet with US Deputy Trade Representative Sarah Bianchi. That was the word from government spokesperson Lo Ping-cheng on Wednesday.
Lo says the two sides will discuss the United States and Taiwan’s bilateral trade relationship.
The talks come following a meeting in Bangkok between Deng and US Trade Representative Katherine Tai in late May. At the time, both sides agreed to move forward in deepening their economic relationship, advance mutual trade priorities, and promote innovation.
The United States recently decided to exclude Taiwan from its multilateral Indo-Pacific Economic Framework. Taiwan’s government called the decision “regrettable,” but left the possibility of engaging on a bilateral basis open.
