Foreign ministry hopes Slovakia delegation visit will lead to stronger ties

The foreign ministry says it hopes the arrival of a delegation of high-level officials from Slovakia will help make ties between the country and Taiwan even stronger.

The delegation arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for a six-day visit aimed at boosting collaboration in health care and information technology. The group’s leader, Milan Laurencik, is the deputy speaker of the Slovak National Council. He is joined by the president of the Bratislava Region surrounding Slovakia’s capital and the chair of the Slovakia-Taiwan Parliamentary Group, among others.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou says the delegation’s visit shows Slovakia’s commitment to cultivating its friendship with Taiwan.

The visit is just the latest in a number of ministerial interactions between Taiwan and Slovakia. Senior officials from Taiwan visited Slovakia in March this year and in October last year. That resulted in Taiwan and Slovakia signing seven industrial agreements to develop closer trade relations.

The delegation visiting Taiwan right now will travel to Kaohsiung to sign a partnership agreement and take part in an investment fair, before flying out on Friday.
