The leader of the Slovakian delegation to Taiwan told President Tsai Ing-wen that Slovakia stands with Taiwan as it faces pressure from outside forces. Those were the remarks by Deputy Speaker of the Slovak National Council Milan Laurenčík as his delegation met the president at the Presidential Office on Tuesday morning.
Laurenčík expressed gratitude for Taiwan’s gift of face masks when the nation was in great need during the pandemic.
President Tsai Ing-wen said she is very grateful for Slovakia’s gift of vaccines and its support for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA). The Foreign Affairs and Health committees of Slovakia’s National Council passed resolutions calling for Taiwan’s observer status in the WHA.
Tsai highlighted that Taiwan and Slovakia are working together to help Ukraine and their refugees and said she believes Taiwan and Slovakia will continue to work together with like-minded countries to establish a resilient line of democracy.
Tsai also said that the bilateral visits between Taiwan’s National Development Council Minister Kung Ming-hsin and Slovakian State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy Karol Galek led to 16 MOUs signed between the two nations.
The delegation of 10 top Slovakian officials is on a six-day visit from June 5 - June 10. The delegation also includes President of the Bratislava Region Juraj Droba, and Peter Osuský, a Slovak lawmaker and chairman of the Slovakia-Taiwan Parliamentary Group.
Droba said that he welcomes President Tsai Ing-wen to visit the Bratislava Region “when conditions allow” and also hopes to see continued cooperation in trade and technology exchanges between the two nations.
