A delegation of French senators will arrive in Taiwan on Wednesday after being invited by the Taiwanese government. That’s the word from Taiwan’s foreign ministry on Tuesday.

French Senator Joel Guerriau will be leading the delegation. The delegation is scheduled to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, Premier Su Tseng-chang, legislature head You Si-kun and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu.

The foreign ministry says the two sides will exchange views on the global and regional security situation, innovations in technology, industrial supply chains and other issues. The two countries hope to work on mutually beneficial partnerships and other areas to make further contributions to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

The ministry says it was due to Guerriau’s efforts that the French senate last May passed a resolution supporting Taiwan’s participation in international institutions. The French National Assembly also passed the same resolution in November last year, making France the first European country to pass a resolution supporting Taiwan in both houses of its parliament.

This is not the first time that a delegation from France has visited Taiwan. A French Senate delegation came to Taiwan last October and a group of French parliamentarians also visited last December.

The delegation led by Guerriau will visit Taiwan from June 8-13.
