Taiwan reported 80,195 new local cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. 159 more people have died.
Taichung, New Taipei City, and Kaohsiung recorded the most infections, with each city reporting around 11,000 cases.
Another 159 people have died from COVID-19, which is a new single-day high. They were aged between 20 and 100. Of the deceased, 157 had chronic illness, while 71 were unvaccinated. They died between May 15 and June 5.
Taiwan also recorded 28 imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
