Taiwan reported 72,921 new local cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. Two hundred eleven more people have died. That’s the highest number since the pandemic began.
About one in seven of the people with new cases of COVID are from Kaohsiung, with 10,822 people there testing positive. Another 10,570 have the disease in Taichung, along with 10,201 in New Taipei.
Another 211 people have died from COVID-19. Their ages ranged from over 10 years old to 90 years old. One hundred ninety-seven had a history of chronic illness, while 83 were unvaccinated.
Out of the 72,921 people confirmed with COVID on Thursday, 575 have moderate or severe symptoms.
Taiwan also recorded 46 imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
