The city of Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan has agreed to partner up with the Slovakian capital, Bratislava. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai and the president of Bratislava region, Juraj Droba, signed a deal on Friday morning.
The agreement aims to help the two cities to work together on economic development, health, technology, tourism, culture and education. Kaohsiung’s National Sun Yat-sen University will also provide full scholarships for ten students and two teachers from Slovakia to come to Taiwan for further studies.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen says Taiwan and Slovakia have similar industrial sectors, so there are many opportunities for cooperation.
Droba says he has seen many Taiwanese companies investing in Slovakia and he hopes that more Slovakians will invest in Taiwan in the future. He says that Slovakia will continue to walk side by side with Taiwan.
