Taipei has been ranked Asia’s best leisure destination for the fifth year in a row. That’s according to the US-based magazine Global Traveler.
South Korea’s capital, Seoul, came second, followed by Phuket in Thailand, and then Tokyo and Singapore.
The results are all the more remarkable given that Taiwan has not been open to tourists since early 2020.
Taiwan Tourism Bureau official Brad Shih says that Taiwan has an advantage during the ongoing COVID pandemic when American travelers are looking for safe and environmentally sustainable travel options.
Meanwhile, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport ranked in fourth place in the magazine’s Best Airport for Layovers category. It was beaten out to the top spot by Istanbul Grand Airport, Miami International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport.
