A friendly, furry, four-legged patron waits patiently for a tasty morsel to fall from the hands of a compassionate biped. Xiaobai is a well-known regular, who belongs to an unknown resident in the neighborhood, and who shops at the outdoor market in central Taipei everyday, the butcher declared in his best Mandarin tinged with a thick local Taiwanese accent.
He's very smart; he makes his rounds for donations from all his favorite vendors before heading home. He watches for traffic at the crosswalk, and navigates the streets by himself safely. And, he's got discerning taste; he'll selectively decline chicken tidbits from an adjacent merchant for a delectable trimming of fresh pork skin to satisfy his palate.
He's likeable, too; he doesn't bark, and he wears a collar with a small, metal dog bone-shaped tag with two phone numbers engraved beneath his name.
