Taiwan’s new “3+4” quarantine policy for travelers will go into effect on Wednesday. The new policy states that starting from the day after arriving in Taiwan, travelers need to quarantine for three days. That is followed by four days of self-health management.
Travelers should complete their four day self-health management period in the same place as their quarantine, either at a private residence or a quarantine hotel. Epidemic control spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang says if a person cannot stay in the same place after their quarantine has ended, local authorities must approve the second location.
Inbound travelers staying at a private residence must have their own room. During the self-health management period, they should also not go outside unless necessary, such as going to work or buying groceries, and avoid crowded areas.
If the person needs to go out during self-health management, they need proof of a negative rapid test taken within the previous two days. They will be allowed to use public transportation, but can’t board a plane, due to scarcer medical resources on Taiwan’s outlying islands.
Chuang says local authorities will check in on new arrivals to make sure they’re properly following the “3+4” system.
