Taiwan reported 68,939 new local cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. 143 more people have died.
The highest number of new COVID infections was recorded in Taichung, with 10,756 people there testing positive. Another 10,001 have the disease in Kaohsiung, along with 8,348 in New Taipei.
Another 143 people have died from COVID-19. Nearly all of them had histories of chronic illnesses. Over a hundred were not fully vaccinated.
Out of the 68,939 people confirmed with COVID on Wednesday, 392 have moderate or severe symptoms.
Taiwan also recorded 26 imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
