China has found traces of the Coronavirus on the packaging of aquatic products from Taiwan. As a result, starting last Friday it banned importing these products for one week in line with epidemic control measures. That’s according to China’s Taiwan Affairs Office.
Spokesperson Ma Xiaoguang says the ban is meant to prevent the Coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, from entering China. He says the measure is meant to safeguard the health and safety of the public.
The ban follows other recent prohibitions on Taiwanese products. On Monday, China halted imports of Taiwanese grouper. Chinese authorities say inspections consistently found banned medications in the fish. China also began prohibiting Taiwanese pineapples last year.
