Taiwan reported 55,187 new local cases of COVID-19 on Friday. One hundred and fifty-four more people have died.
Taking into account the population of each area of Taiwan, Changhua County is a hotspot for the virus. More than 4,000 people have new cases of COVID there. Pingtung County is also dealing with a high number of infections, as is Kaohsiung.
Another 154 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80, and less than half were triple-vaccinated.
Out of the 55,187 people confirmed with COVID on Friday, 446 have moderate or severe symptoms.
Taiwan also recorded 74 imported cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
