President Tsai Ing-wen awarded the Order of the Sacred Tripod with Grand Cordon to senior military officer Chang Che-ping today. The award is Taiwan’s third-most prestigious military award and recognizes outstanding contributions to national security.
Chang Che-ping was appointed a military strategy advisor to the president and a deputy general of the Air Force by the Presidential Office last Thursday. He was previously head of the National Defense University and is a former deputy minister of national defense.
The president recognized Chang’s important contributions to Taiwan for enhancing the island’s self-defense. She noted with concern that Taiwan faces a more challenging and diverse set of threats in today’s age of disruptive technology. Tsai’s remarks come at a time of rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
